The text “Jataka Parijata” describes the post-death course of the soul. It holds that if Jupiter is in the ascendant at the time of death, the soul’s destination is believed to be the realm of the gods (Devlok); if the Sun or Mars is there, the realm of death (Mrityulok); if the Moon or Venus, the realm of the ancestors (Pitrilok); and if Mercury or Saturn, the realm of hell (Narak Lok).
