Heavy rainfall lashed the Delhi-NCR region on Wednesday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the persistent humid weather. The showers, which began early in the day, drenched the city and its surrounding areas, offering residents a respite from the soaring temperatures of recent weeks.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the national capital and its adjoining regions, indicating the likelihood of more heavy rainfall later in the day. According to the IMD, a yellow alert signifies rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm, suggesting that residents should be prepared for further downpours.
The continuous rain has led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, causing traffic snarls and slowing down the morning commute. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and expect delays due to the weather conditions.
Despite the inconvenience, many residents welcomed the rain, as it brought down the temperature significantly. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 36 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively, providing a much-needed break from the heat.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay indoors as much as possible during the heavy rainfall and to avoid venturing into waterlogged areas. Additionally, they have recommended that people stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and advisories issued by the IMD.
The heavy rains are part of the monsoon season, which typically brings substantial precipitation to the region. While the showers are essential for replenishing water supplies and sustaining agricultural activities, they also pose challenges in urban areas, where infrastructure often struggles to cope with the sudden influx of water.
As the day progresses, the IMD will continue to monitor the weather conditions and provide updates. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the heavy rains.
